World Premiere at the Paperworld in Frankfurt, Hi-tech pen for personal access.
Frankfurt, January 26th 2005.
The owner of the Hi-Pen can walk through electronically controlled doors and gates, operate restricted computers or get lunch out of Hi-Pen enabled vending machines without or struggling with cash changing machines. The Hi-Pen can go anywhere because it combines its electronic RFID key tag technology (Radio Frequency Identification) with the famous writing performance of the Fisher Space Pen (writing upside down, in a vacuum, under water and at extreme temperatures, between -45°C up to +200°C).
The Hi-Pen gives you, as a personal token, an easy interface with the electronic world, whereas the outdated impersonal access codes, passes and plastic cards often are an annoyance to the user.
Example
The Xerox Corporation gives to all Printing Congress visitors a Hi-Pen. One of them is Paul Smith. At the entrance of the congress Paul presents his Hi-Pen with build in RFID to an electronic reader that recognizes him as an invited guest for this congress. It gives him access to an automatic gate, where the words, "Hi Paul, welcome to our Xerox Conference" on a bill-board appear. At the conference he makes notes with his Hi-Pen. By presenting his Hi-Pen to a reading device on the cash register at lunchtime, he gets a free lunch. Later at a vending machine, presenting his Hi-Pen he gets a free coke. At the end of the congress at an unmanned desk he is asked to leave his Hi-Pen when he wants to receive a soft copy of the congress presentations. That same day this data is in his e-mail box. Some days later Paul receives a small parcel from Xerox in his mail box. It's his Hi-Pen again, now engraved with, "Paul Smith", together with a pen-stand also with his printed name on it, plus security software on a CD-rom.
Paul now has an easy and secure log-on tool for his desktop computer. The tedious log-on procedure is reduced to one simple operation "Paul puts his Hi-Pen into his pen-stand". The rest of the process is done automatically. During a phone call Paul takes the Hi-Pen out of the pen-stand and makes a note in his private agenda. As long as his Hi-Pen stays within a short distance of the pen-stand, the presence of his Hi-Pen is still recognized by the radio waves of his pen-stand. However, when Paul leaves his desk for a meeting he takes his high valued and personalized Hi-Pen with him. The computer will shut down because the pen-stand doesn't sense the Hi-Pen anymore.
Allwrite BV and RFID-net BV from the Netherlands, together with the Fisher Space Pen Co. from the USA (specialist in hi-tech ball-pens), have jointly developed the new Hi-Pen using SOKYMAT RFID Tags.
At the Paperworld exhibition in Frankfurt, Hall 3.1- on the Fisher Space Pen Stand A87, the Hi-Pen will be demonstrated.
The Fisher Hi-Pen (patent application 1026275) is ideal for granting expedited entrance to conferences and exhibitions which require restricted access or documented attendance.
The Hi-Pen grants the owner security access to Personal Computers, while rejecting unauthorized access. The special RFID characteristics of the Hi-Pen can be combined with personal computers equipped with the Hi-Pen Desk Stand (plugged into a standard USB port). The owner can automatically log out when leaving with the Hi-Pen. While they are at their desk, the owner can use the Hi-Pen without disturbing computer-access.
